Last Bus Search Training in Przemyśl: learning, practicing, connecting

First day was focused on theory. Participants explored key topics such as risk analysis, real case studies of smuggling, psychological aspects of inspections and the structure of minibuses and small buses.

Day 2 brought learning into action. The day was divided into two parts:

  • the theoretical session included a presentation on real seizure examples and techniques for tyre inspections. A standout moment came from Mateusz, a trainer from the Polish -Ukrainian border, who introduced various scents used to detect tampering in vehicle structures. All participants successfully identified the smells.
  • the practical part took place in a garage equipped with a special training bus. Officers were challenged to find hidden smuggling compartments within a set timeframe. The outcome? All participants completed the task successfully.

Third day moved the training to the Polish- Ukrainian border crossing point in Medyka, offering real-life conditions for testing new skills. Officers performed full bus inspections, controlled passenger luggage and carried out detailed vehicle checks under operational conditions. It was a true test of their newly gained expertise.

Przemyśl was chosen as the training host location for its perfect infrastructure, experienced trainers and distance to the Polish-Ukrainian border – an area of strategic importance for customs operations.

More Than Just Techniques

While the primary goal of the training was to enhance inspection effectiveness, participants emphasized one factor that made the experience truly exceptional: the people.

Meeting customs officers from across Europe created a space for informal exchange, peer learning and building lasting professional connections.

In the closing session, trainees expressed their appreciation for the professionalism of the trainers, the seamless organisation and the modern infrastructure provided by the National Revenue School and  CELBET Centre of Expertise in Przemyśl.

This Bus Search Training proved that effective customs training is not only about procedures — it’s about preparing officers for real challenges, building trust across borders, and acting as one in reality.
